Materials & Quality

Understand the materials, finishes, and quality language used across Pierced Society jewelry.

01

Titanium

For initial and healed piercings, material quality matters. When a product is described as implant-grade titanium, look for a documented implant material standard such as ASTM F136, ASTM F67, or an equivalent applicable standard. “G23” by itself is a titanium grade designation and should not be treated as proof of implant certification.

02

14k Gold

Solid 14k gold can be appropriate for body jewelry when the alloy is manufactured for body wear and the piece is properly finished. Gold color alone does not identify alloy quality. White, yellow, and rose gold use different alloying metals, so customers with metal sensitivities should review the specific product details.

03

What “Body-Safe” Means

We use “body-safe” to describe jewelry selected with biocompatibility, smooth finishing, appropriate construction, and intended body-jewelry use in mind. It does not mean every material is suitable for every person or every healing piercing. A professional piercer can help select material, gauge, length, and style for an individual piercing.

04

Finishes, Coatings & Plating

Polished bare titanium and solid gold differ from plated or coated jewelry. Plating and decorative coatings can wear over time from friction, chemicals, moisture, and normal use. Product pages should identify the base material and finish when applicable.

05

Nickel & Metal Sensitivities

Nickel sensitivity is common. “Nickel-free” should only be used when supported by the actual alloy or supplier documentation. If you have a known metal allergy or prior reaction, review the listed material and consult a qualified piercer or clinician before wearing new jewelry.
