Gauge
Gauge describes the thickness of the post or ring. A smaller gauge number generally means a thicker piece. Common examples include 20g (0.8 mm), 18g (1.0 mm), 16g (1.2 mm), and 14g (1.6 mm). Never force jewelry into a piercing that is a different size.
Length & Wearable Area
Straight and curved posts are usually measured across the wearable shaft, excluding decorative ends. The correct length depends on anatomy, placement, swelling, and jewelry style.
Ring Diameter
Ring diameter is measured across the inside of the ring, not the outside edge. A difference of even 1–2 mm can noticeably change fit.

How to Measure
- Use a millimeter ruler or caliper for jewelry dimensions.
- Measure ring diameter from inside edge to inside edge.
- Measure wearable post length between the end/base and the point where the decorative end begins.
- When unsure, have a professional piercer measure the piercing and existing jewelry.
