Jewelry Types Guide

Learn the construction and typical use of the most common body-jewelry styles.

01

Flat-Back Labrets

A straight post with a flat disc on one side and a removable or threadless decorative end on the other. Common for many ear cartilage and lip placements.

02

Straight & Curved Barbells

Straight barbells have a straight wearable shaft; curved barbells follow a gentle curve. Ends may be threaded or threadless depending on the system.

03

Clickers, Seam Rings & Captive Rings

Hinged clickers open at a hinge and snap closed. Seam rings use a continuous ring shape with a seam. Captive bead rings hold a bead or decorative element by tension or compatible closure hardware.

04

Circular Barbells / Horseshoes

An open circular shape with removable ends. Often used in septum and other suitable healed placements.

05

Ends & Tops

Decorative ends can be threaded or threadless and are only compatible with matching post systems and sizes. Check threading and post specifications before mixing components.

06

Retainers

Retainers are designed to make a piercing less visible or accommodate specific temporary needs. Material and suitability vary; ask a piercer before using a retainer in a healing piercing.
